subject: The Details Of Establishing An Exciting Court Reporter Career [print this page]

Courtroom television shows and movies have always been incredibly popular because people are infatuated with the drama that comes with a trial. Those who want to take their interest in the courtroom to the next level should examine the possibility of a court reporter career. In this line of work, they must pay close attention to what goes on during a legal meeting or trial and accurately record all that is said.

The time that someone must invest to get into the field is dependent upon the type of reporting they are interested in doing. In under a year, anyone can become a novice writer. However, if they wish to become a stenotypist, they will need to complete a program that takes thirty-three months. In order to complete certification, candidates must also be trained on the job.

Completing the training program is just one of the requirements on the road to a career as a court reporter. In many states, for example, candidates must also complete the training to work as a notary public. The programs endorsed by the NCRA, or National Court Reporters Association, are the best choices for someone who wants to make sure they have every requirement covered.

There are a variety of subjects covered over the course of court reporter training. Students need to learn how to use the reporting machinery as well as the software it requires. It is also mandatory that they learn medical and legal jargon in order to take accurate records of legal proceedings. However, learning shorthand transcription is the most important part of their training.

Once someone completes their training program for a court reporter career, they will be happy to know that jobs in the field are fairly easy to find. It is a position that is in high demand, which shows no signs of decreasing in the near future. A person who is passionate about law and has excellent communication skills would thrive in this exciting field.
