While a lot of studies show that Germans know how to speak and understand English, the language is still one of those looked up to as asset if the people want to get a head start on their career. It is a fact that younger Germans are able to speak English quite fluently as it is included in their studies in school. This also means that a great percentage of the older population know little or almost no English so jobs for teaching English is still presented as a need in the country.
If you want to teach English abroad, specifically Germany, try applying to where there is less competition, which means you would have to try the smaller cities. It would be easier to work with the people there but the only thing you have to worry about is that in those places, there wouldn't be a lot of people who can communicate using English. Other teachers would rather invest their time learning the language of the country along with their German companions they have been with for years.
Knowing more about the country will be much easier if you work in the smaller cities as these places show the natural culture of the country aside from the busy lives that is almost symmetrical with other cities around the globe.
If you want to teach English abroad, you would need a TEFL certificate and a minimum of a bachelor's degree education. Of course, you would also need to learn a few basic German words for you to be able to get out of an emergency situation.
