A lot of consumers will agree that BlackBerry devices could be credited for revolutionizing the Smartphone industry as we know it today. These devices were one of the first to market the QWERTY keyboard on their mobiles which has now become a staple feature in a variety of Smartphones. Today, nearly all, if not all mobile phone manufacturers have their own QWERTY device.

Since they started in the industry, BlackBerry has been successful in providing its users with a wide array of highly reliable handsets that cater to their every need. In this article we will be looking at two of the newer additions to their ever growing collection of excellent Smartphones. Today, we will be looking at the BlackBerry Torch vs BlackBerry Curve 3G.

Looks

As youd expect, these two Smartphones still possess the famed Berry QWERTY keyboard on them. However, the Torch isnt like you typical BlackBerry device. Although it still has the familiar QWERTY keypad on board, it takes a different approach by also including a 3.2 TFT touch screen display.

The Torch sports a slide out keyboard which reveals itself from the bottom. Also, the Curve 3G also comes in a black and red colour scheme which makes the device a bit of a standout. Other than this though, looking at the BlackBerry Torch vs BlackBerry Curve 3G will make it seem as though youre seeing two identical BlackBerry devices.

Naturally, the Torch holds a bulkier design in order to accommodate the slide out QWERTY keyboard. Its dimensions are 111 x 62 x 14.6 mm which actually isnt as far off from the Curve 3Gs 109 x 60 x 13.9 mm measurements. However, the Curve 3G is much lighter than its counterpart with a weight of only 104 grams as compared to the Torchs 161-gram weight.

Features

However, when you look at the features of the BlackBerry Torch vs BlackBerry Curve 3G side by side, you could easily identify the former as a more high-end device which hopes to cater to a higher market segment. Voice and data connectivity options are almost identical on these two handsets as they both support 3G HSDPA, EDGE, GPRS, Bluetooth, and of course, Wi-Fi.

Also, both Smartphones sport version 6.0 of the much talked about BlackBerry OS. However, the Torch outclasses the Curve 3G when it comes to processing speed through the power of its 624 MHz CPU. Another major discrepancy among these two handsets is the built-in camera. While the Curve 3G settles for a more familiar 3-Megapixel camera, the Torch brings it up a notch by installing a 5-Megapixel snapper which comes with added features such as continuous autofocus, geo tagging, and image stabilization.

Final Word

At the end of the day, the choice between the BlackBerry Torch vs BlackBerry Curve 3G becomes a matter of ones budget. Obviously, the former is a more feature-packed device that will naturally comes with a higher price tag. On the other hand, the BlackBerry Curve 3G delivers all the Berry features youd expect from an RIM device at a cheaper cost.

However, if what youre looking for is a cutting edge device that features the most advanced functions offered by a Berry then the BlackBerry Torch is more likely the device for you.
