subject: Starcraft 2 Strategy - The Zerg Roach Rush [print this page] If you are looking for a quick win as Zerg look no further than the Roach rush. This strategy guide will help you recognize when you should attempt and Roach rush and when you should avoid making Roaches.
The Roach rush, when executed properly is a very powerful and effective strategy that can end the game in as little as 8 minutes. However, it can cost you the game if you do it wrong. Lets start by talking about some of the strengths and weaknesses of the Roach. The Roach does very nice damage and also has a lot of base armor. That means the Roach will not do very well against units like Mauraders because Mauraders do extra damage against armored units. Immortals also do extra damage against armored units so the Roach is not a good choice when fighting Immortals. However, the Roach is very good against Marines, Zerglings, Stalkers, and Zealots. Because of this I would not recommend doing a Roach rush against a Terran opponent because Mauraders will destroy your Roaches. Against a Protoss player a Roach rush is particularly effective if the player doesn't have Immortals yet.
Normally if my opponent isn't rushing I will skip over Zerglings and get a Roach Warren as soon as my Spawning Pool is complete. You only need to make one Extractor because you won't need a lot of gas. When the Roach Warren is complete start pumping out Roaches. Once you get 15 or 20 of them send them to your opponents base. You need to either flat out win the game here are takeout most of your opponents workers. If you are unable to do either one of these, you will lose the game because you economy will be crippled.
