Tips on mailing a resume

Address to a Specific Person

1. Direct the envelope to a specific individual. If not certain who will get the resume, call the potential location of employment. Many times the human resources department will give the name of the interviewer, if asked who the hiring manager is for a particular opening. Double-check the spelling of first and last names.

Include a Cover Letter

2. Always send a cover letter with a resume. Cover letters should be typed about the specific job opening and why you are a good candidate for the position. Keep away from sending a ordinary dull cover letter. Make sure the cover letter is addressed to a specific person.

Remember Mailing Date

3. Track the mailing date. Once a resume has been mailed, waiting for an response seem nerve racking. Contact the human resources department or contact the hiring manager asking where they are in the interview process and their time frame if there is no feedback within one to two weeks. This is especially important when interviewing with various businesses--so you can weigh your best options.
