Brenham boys soccer coach Erik Lane is a pumps shoes believer leaders are born, not made. That's why he never hesitated in making sophomore goalkeeper Zach Riffett a team captain before the youngster had suited up for his first game as a Cub.
"Here's a guy that gets pumped up before the game and is the one who's always in the middle of our break," Lane said. "You can't be a leader because you want to be a leader - everyone has to want to christian high heels you. There has to be something about you where people want to listen to you and follow whatever you say."
Riffett fit the mold, so Lane made him the Cubs' third captain along with seniors Jason Meekins and Craig Sandoval, both four-year lettermen. Riffett, who spent his freshman year in Florida with the U.S. National U-17 team, was admittedly inYSLtimidated.
