subject: The Main Challenges Of Career Planning Process Clarified. [print this page]

Career planning is strategically important for every human being because of the overwhelming time of ones life spent at work, with colleagues and with tasks taken home. For this reason the process of career planning lasts for the whole life, from the moment of college graduation until the day when the individual is retired. To make it successful and to avoid the lifelong search of his or her niche, one has to conduct a comprehensive attempt in the early years to define the direction of work he or she sees as suitable, to identify the competence needed to occupy the job and follow the chosen path firmly.

Career Planning Steps.

1. The main challenge of career planning is that nobody may help the individual better that he or she personally. At the beginning of career planning one has to have a deeper look into his/her inner self and conduct an objective self-assessment. To find out what work is suitable for him/her, it is necessary to define the desired working environment (a small private firm or a huge corporation, civil service, military service etc.), to identify ones skills and values (education, medicine, business etc.) and to understand what skills are available and which ones still need to be acquired to get the job.

2. One more significant element is to research the labor market to identify which jobs are in demand currently. Even despite the fact that one may be genuinely interested in law, but there is lack of demand for lawyers because of high supply, one has to be ready to lack of work and poor employment opportunities. Thus, a job has to be chosen from the ones in high demand to ensure a worthy position and career.

3. Finally, it is essential to conduct a realistic match between ones wishes and opportunities to adopt a firm career plan.
