subject: Making Middle School Easy [print this page]

Summer is coming to a close and that means plenty of huge back-to-school sales are already in progress. Loving mothers want to prepare their children for success in middle school, but there is much more to buy then just new girls or boys clothing. Middle school students are at a crucial stage in their personal development and the right help from mom can put them on the path for success and give them more self-confidence. The list of what not to buy your son is more important than what you should buy.

1.Rollie Backpacks: Buying your son a back pack with wheels is the worst possible thing you can do. At some middle schools, the older kids throw all the rollie backpacks down a hill in the back of the school. Rollie backpacks get kicked and jostled in school halls and are a tripping hazard for other children. They are also, quite possibly, the dorkiest thing you can have in middle school.

2.Matching Stationary: A cute notebook and pen set of your sons favorite child superhero is probably not the best idea. When buying school supplies, stick to solid color notebooks and basic blue and black pens.

3.Velcro or Light Up Shoes: Its very important to let your son pick out a pair of shoes that will be both physically and mentally comfortable for him to wear. Boys that are worried about what others think of their embarrassing shoes are probably going to have a difficult time socializing with other kids.

The first day of middle school is a big deal for many mothers, and if you want to make your son feel special then pack him his favorite lunch, let him decide what clothes to wear (within reason), and allow him to find his identity during this important time. By listening to what hes interested in and respecting his choices, you can show him that you care and love him as a person.
