subject: Nutritional Style: Eating Younger! [print this page]

If youre over 35, chances are youre thinking about the AGING process, and once you hit 45( if youre not careful) its staring back at you from the bathroom mirror. I know women who are 38 and look 52, and others who are 50 and look 39. Whats the difference? Is it all good genes? Well, some of it is your genetic code, and there are some things we cant change. However, Ive seen dramatic transformations occur with good diet. One of the signs of aging is puffiness- eyelids, under eye bags, bloated stomachs, ugh!

Heres one of my Secrets to Eating Younger:

* The Secret to Reducing Puffiness without Hitting the Gym

Theres nothing like puffy, red skin to make you feel poorly about yourself. No matter what you do, no matter how much make-up you put on, you simply cannot hide it. When youre puffy it screams, "Ive over-indulged, Im over-tired and Im feeling kinda old." Puffiness is inflammation and what many people dont know is that inflammation is the root cause of many serious diseases. Its early warning signs can show up on your skin; rosacea, acne, blood vessels, redness and uneven skin tone. Not to mention early arthritis, joint swelling and aches and pains. Your doctor cant do much except recommend a temporary anti-inflammation pill or topical creams. But what you eat and drink can absolutely turn this around in no time. In fact, reducing inflammation is one of the keys to anti-aging and can put the spring back in your step and help to avoid unnecessary health challenges.

a) Replace your weekly pasta habit with a delicious whole grain instead, like a brown rice blend or a quinoa salad. White pasta is processed and refined, causing our insulin to shoot up and signaling our bodies to store weight and fat, while a whole grain like quinoa is high in fiber and slowly metabolized-giving your body a chance to absorb all the nutrients and keeping your blood sugar stable.

b) Use a dairy free beverage like rice, almond or hemp milk in your cereal or smoothie instead of cows milk. Dairy is inflammatory in many people and if you suffer from migraines, sinus issues, mucous or allergies, this could be a life- changing switch for your overall health, not to mention your skin tone.

c) Shed the sugar in your coffee and give up the afternoon sugar boost. Sugar is inflammatory and spikes your system up only to crash it down. This insulin roller coaster affects your moods and your weight, and the worst part is that sugar is highly addictive so youll want more later. Try natural stevia in your drinks, and instead of a candy bar go for naturally sweet energy bar made with few ingredients and natural sweeteners like dates and raisins.
