subject: Its Unconventional Square Shape Gives The Nokia X5 A Strange Type Of Appeal [print this page]

The Nokia X5 is a Symbian Series 60 v3 device that is directed at the younger generation of phone users who dont need or cant afford to buy high-end touchscreen smartphones. For this reason, the phone comes with integration to popular social networking sites and is available in a variety of snazzy colours that will surely appeal to the young consumers yellow green, purple, pink, azure and graphite black.

A different sort of appeal

The X5 is the newest addition in the X Series product line. Whilst this new handset looks somewhat different from other mobile devices that roll out of the Nokia assembly line, being an unusual combination of square form factor with full QWERTY slide-out keyboard, it certainly offers a totally new experience to users.

Whether they find the handset handsome or not is entirely up to the individuals taste. Its everyone to their own discretion. One thing is certain, though; the look and feel of the handset is positively unlike other smartphones sold in the market today. This dissimilarity brings about a certain appeal to the Nokia X5 that can make heads turn in the college hallways and the night clubs.

The almost square shape of the handset may take some time getting used to, but it is small enough to drop inside your purse or pants pocket. The device comes with dimensions of 74.3 x 66.4 x 16.8 mm and weighs in at129 grams. It includes a 2.36-inch TFT display which supports up to 256,000 colours and 320 x 240 pixels resolution.

High-speed data access

X5 handset users will receive connectivity from both 2G and 3G networks. 2G networks carry quad band GSM 850/ 900/ 1800/ 1900 MHz connectivity whilst 3G networks supply connectivity via tri band HSDPA 900/ 1900/ 2100 MHz. Data access is provided to users by both Class 32 GPRS and EDGE.

High speed internet browsing is possible on the X5 due to the presence of Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g and HSDPA. Because the mobile handset offers tight integration to social networking sites (SNS), fast internet access will allow them to easily update their status with messages, images and videos.

Generous memory support

The Nokia X5 offers substantial storage memory that can support a lot of data, downloaded software and tons of media content. Upon purchase of the handset, the user will get a 2 GB memory card bundled free with the package. If further increase in memory capacity is required, then users can turn to the external microSD card slot to accommodate memory expansion cards up to 32 GB. The X5 comes with 200 MB internal onboard memory when shipped.

The camera bundled with the X5 may not be high-end but its definitely more than decent. The phone comes with a 5 megapixel digital camera equipped with LED flash. This snapper can produce images rendered with crisp 2592 x 1944 pixels resolution. A secondary camera for videochat is not present but the primary camera is capable of VGA-quality video capture at 15 frames per second.
