subject: Nokia X5 Reaching Out To The Youth Market With Snazzy Design And Low Price [print this page]

Nokia has introduced another new member to the X Series of music-centric mobile phone during the Nokia Connection event held in Singapore. As improved text messaging and social network integration are becoming standard fare in mobile phones, more and more youth are using these welcome changes to get in touch with their growing online contacts through mobile phones.

Yoof-oriented messaging phone

The Nokia X5 is a somewhat unusual-looking yoof handset that is directed at text-active young consumers who either cant afford or dont need a touchscreen smartphone. It may lack many high-end features found in the more expensive mobile devices, however, it does have the necessary components to fully satisfy the social networking and text messaging needs of nearly every young person who knows how to use a keypad.

The company then passes the savings on to the consumers in the form of a very affordable price tag.

The X5 is nearly square-shaped, equipped with a slide-out full QWERTY keyboard thats very much similar to that of Nokias E-Business mobile handsets. In a manner of speaking, the X5 is a business handset for teenagers (and yuppies as well) who are largely into text messaging and social media.

Hardware and software features

The new Nokia X5 is equipped with a high-quality 5 megapixel camera and a wide array of social networking applications and tools. The digital snapper ships with an LED flash and delivers up to 2592 x 1944 pixels image resolution.

It can record VGA-quality video at 15 frames per second. The X5 is also loaded with a lot of terrific multimedia options and enhancements, as well as dedicated music keys and built-in speakerphones.

One of the phones striking features is that it runs Symbian 9.3 operating system plus a Series 60 version 3.2 user interface for faster and intuitive navigation. The entire system will be powered by a zippy and efficient 600 MHz ARM 11 mobile processor beating at the core.

The Nokia X5 is equipped with a TFT screen measuring 2.36 inches with 256,000 colours running at 320 x 240 pixels resolution.

Wired and wireless connectivity

The device has Class 32 EDGE and GPRS. It also supports both 2G and 3G networks for global roaming. 2G provide quad band GSM 850/ 900/ 1800/ 1900 connectivity whilst 3G provide connectivity through tri band HSDPA 900/ 1900/ 2100 network. Further connectivity is provided by Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1, microUSB and a built-in 3.5 mm audio jack.

As mentioned earlier, the X5 provides integration with social networking services. The device allows users to gain fast access to popular social networking sites Facebook, Twitter, MySpace and Hi5.

The Nokia X5 ships with 128 MB RAM and 200 MB of internal onboard memory and, should you need more room for your media collection, you can always increase the memory capacity up to a maximum of 32 GB via the built-in microSD card slot.

The handset is available in a variety of snazzy colours which include Yellow Green, Azure, Pink, Graphite Black and Purple.
