While the people of Michigan might not be worried about things that go bump in the night on just any average night, on certain occasions sinister thoughts might come to mind. After turning off a scary satellite TV movie and heading for bed, some of the normal Michigan creeks, whistles and howls in the night might turn into good reason for fright, and many scary movie watchers resultantly spend sleepless nights. Having someone there to keep you company can be a big help, since even the bravest of scary movie watchers sometimes need a hand to hold when the shrill music gets high and that moment of tension breaks across the HD screen. Whether your style of horror film is blood and guts, psychological thriller, or purse suspense, it's likely that once in a while you partake in a night of fright. Now, it seems, the genre is moving to the small screen and moving past the vampire craze in a big way. While AMC has long been known as a classic movies channel, now it's delving into the super series genre by churning out serious and award winning programs. The latest, it has been said, will be about none other than a horror film favorite, zombies.

It's hard to get in that much carnage without turning a few stomachs but the average zombie film has the best of all worlds. While there are some real people that you want to make it through to the end, the vast majority of the gore involves slashing up the already living dead,' meaning that they were already half dead to begin with. Likewise, when a new person gets nabbed,' they don't fully die, so there's not that finality. There's lots of suspense and surprises, zombies jumping out of everywhere, and the psychological element of how in any particular film it will be possible to do away' with the zombies. In fact, zombie logic can be quite varied based on films, meaning chopping off the head might work in one zombie infested world, while in others it may require a lawnmower blade. Sometimes the zombies are created by a wild monkey bite, sometimes by an evil corporation, and still on other occasions by the rapid spread of devastating viruses. While there is little to no actual concern that zombies will come and get you' in real life, many people still have trouble getting rest after watching one of these horrifying films.

How exactly this zombie genre will transfer from a movie to a satellite TV show should be interesting to see. Set to premiere of AMC on Halloween, the appropriately titled The Walking Dead' follows a man who wakes up in a hospital to find the world run by zombies. While that entirely original plot line may not surprise many, perhaps the real surprise in this instance will be seeing exactly how the finality of a zombie storyline can be stretched out for more than an hour and a half worth of episodes; however, many people said the same about a group of survivors stranded on a deserted island after a plane crash. Magic? Sorcery? Science? Stay tuned to AMC on satellite TV to see for yourself!
