subject: Clear Up Herpes Outbreaks - Speed up Healing and Minimise Pain and Itching [print this page]

If you suffer from genital herpes, whether your symptoms are light and infrequent or severe and often, knowing a few methods besides your usual medication to help speed up healing and relieve pain and itching can be a real godsend. Below are just a few of the many tips I've collected over the years that really help me clear up herpes outbreaks quickly and painlessly. I'll expand upon more tips and home treatments in future articles.

Salt Baths - Warm water and Epsom salts can really sooth the itch and pain of an outbreak, with the added bonus that the salt helps sterilise and speed up the healing process. Sometimes this can sting a little at first, but if you can put up with the discomfort for the first thirty seconds or so you'll find a salt bath can really help with healing up sores and that nasty rash. Use a hairdryer on the cool setting to dry off your genital area if it's too sensitive to use a regular towel.

Hydration - This is something that often gets overlooked in our day to day lives, and it is even more important for people with herpes for healing an outbreak of genital herpes. Make sure you drink enough water, and you might even try drinking hydrating sports drinks to make sure your body is getting enough water. Drinking plenty of water can dilute the urine too, so those of you who get pain when urinating as a symptom can benefit from this tip too.

Garlic - Garlic is a time honoured natural remedy that is a proven virus-fighter. When I feel an outbreak coming down the tracks, one of my first measures is to cook up a big pasta dish with triple garlic. Luckily for me I love the taste, but if it's a bit strong for you then I'd suggest a garlic supplement which are tasteless and odourless, and can be found in health food stores. Pick up some lysine while you are there! That's the other herpes-buster wonder supplement I'll talk about in the next article.
