You would find that there are various music theory books on guitar available in the market. However you should be very careful about the theory books that you choose for your studies. It is always good to know that though there are lots of books, not all books are equally good. However, first you need to know about the types of theories of guitar that exist. There are three types of theories in guitar and these are classical, jazz and rock/blues. If you want to concentrate on the modern theories of guitar then here are some guide books that might help you.

A Modern Method For Guitar: This is a series of three volumes of books and they are also known as Berklee Books'. It is a book by William Leavitt where in the available volumes you would find everything you want to know about the theory of guitar fretboard. You would not only understand the basics of how to create music on the fretboard but also get the opportunity of doing technical exercises.

The Jazz Theory Book: This book is written by Mark Levine and it is a wonderful theory book for those who already have some idea about the basics of music. Though mostly it deals with the various theories of Jazz music but there are other chapters on theories of other forms of music too.

Jazz Studies: Written by Bill Clarke, this is another good book on Jazz music. Here you would get excellent explanation of how various modes and the Cycle 5 and Cycle 7 concepts work. It is written in free flowing language so that you can easily understand.

See It-Hear It/Hear It-Play It: This book by Dick Grove is a complete course of guitar theories. It comes with DVDs as well as text instructions. The DVDs make it easier to understand the theories and make them interesting too.
