subject: Which Extracurricular Activity Will Be Right For You? [print this page]

The choice of extracurricular activities is variable at every school or university. The reason is that the government of the educational institution pays special attention to the students social life and personal development. At the beginning of every academic year one can choose any available activity. So, naturally, it is sometimes rather difficult to define at once the activity you want to join.

Consider the following advice that will help you with your choice.

1.Always consider your personal need and interests. Never choose the activity only because your friend does it. Have some time to think over what you really want and what your abilities and skills are. Listen to the experience of other students. If you need a piece of advice, you may ask your teacher or a fellow student who has already participated in this activity.

2.Think about the role that you want to perform in the activity. It may be the role of a leader, a president, a participant or a support participant. Each role presupposes particular skills. Define what valuable skills you have and what skills you want to improve or acquire.

3.There are activity advisors that can help you to define the best activity. Moreover, if you are not sure, you may even ask a school or college psychologist.

4.There are some options you need to know about the activity.

5.The first option is the time. Will the activity fit your academic and personal schedule?

6.The second option is age. Some activities presuppose a certain age or grade to participate in.

7.The next one is your grades. Some activities require a minimum grade to be a member of the group.

8.And finally, the fees. Some activities require certain fees for uniforms, costumes or other things.
