For buyers in the market for a full-size pickup, there may be no better option than the 2010 Chevrolet Silverado, which is a near-perfect blend of function and price at the mid-tier LT trim. The no-frills Work Truck has a certain amount of allure simply because of the rock-bottom price, but the savings aren't worth the loss of air-conditioning and power accessories to the average customer.

Under the hood, Chevrolet offers a 4.3-liter V6 that provides 195 horsepower at the low end. At the high end, there's the chest-thumping 6.2-liter V8 that delivers a whopping 403 hp. The two standard options, however, are the 295-hp 4.8-liter V8 and the 315-hp 5.3-liter V8. Silverado's with the 4.8-liter V8 and the base V6 include a 4-speed automatic transmission with a tow and haul mode. Chevrolet pairs all other engine choices with a six-speed automatic, but manual transmission are available as an option.

In terms of safety, Chevrolet includes front-side and side-curtain air bags, stability control, and antilock brakes standard. The antilock brakes are front disc, rear drum, but you can get an all-disc setup in the Max Tailoring package, which is just one of several towing packages. The Z71 is once again the off-road package, and it includes, among other things, 20-inch wheels, skid plates, and an off-road suspension.

If a used Chevy trucks is more your style, then you'll want to check out the wide selection of used Silverado's at Chevrolet Burlington. Since the current Silverado generation debuted with the 2007 model year, this is where we'd turn our attention first. Truck buyers can have a 2007 Silverado with decent mileage at a song compared to a brand new truck, and they won't be missing any of the modern amenities. The only differences are minor revisions to the engine lineups.

If you have workman-like attitude and prefer function to flash, then you can achieve a great deal of value in the half-ton Silverado's that Chevrolet manufactured from 1999-2006. Output ranged from 255 to 345 hp, and these models were incredibly rugged. Quadra Steer, which Chevrolet introduced around 2001/2002, got a bad rap because of the price, but it's a performance steering system certainly worth targeting in a used vehicle.
