Workers who had completed electrician training courses were just some of the employees on set in Devon for the making of a new movie starring Bond girl Gemma Arterton.

Tamara Drewe stars Roger Allam and Dominic Cooper alongside the young actress and offers an updated take on Thomas Hardy's Far From the Madding Crowd novel.

However, the News of the World reported that technicians with electrician training courses were required to turn 13th century barns into modern film sets.

Reflecting on the experience, local resident and owner of the White Hart Jim Bayfield told the publication that it all caused plenty of excitement in the village of Yetminster.

"They had to change all the wiring and all the lights had to come off as they are low-energy. They had to turn all the coolers off and anything that made any noise," he was quoted as saying.

The film was directed by Stephen Frears, who has also helmed flicks such as High Fidelity and The Queen.
