subject: Ensure The Survival Of Your Mlm Recruits With Fresh Ammunition [print this page]

If you were a General in the Army, would you send your troops into battle with no bullets? Of course not.

Unfortunately, that happens all the time when new network marketing distributors are enrolled into a program with no training.

There are many stories about men who joined the army during the Civil War because they believed in a noble cause. They were farmers and carpenters who often had no training or weapons other than pitchforks and clubs.

Even the victors of those battles returned home damaged by scars that never healed.

Our new distributors often get beaten up, too.

They sign up for what they think will be an easy victory, filled with visions of 4-hour workweeks and margaritas on the beach. But after butting heads with naysayers and doubting family members, they start to withdraw into the safety of their old familiar lives and they give up on their dreams.

In basic training, lots of time is spent trying to induce the pressure of battle so the recruit can stand the stress of real battle.

If a soldier spends time with a grizzled veteran fresh off the battlefield, the vet can look the rookie in the eye and tell him, "there's no glory on the battlefield, only casualties". The recruit can prepare himself for the reality of war and withstand combat. The vet still believes in the cause, but he has a different perspective. His perspective can save the newbie's life.

If a new recruit knows what's likely to happen when he shares his business opportunity with others, he'll be able to withstand rejection. It won't come as a surprise and it won't take the wind out of his sails.

People in the armed forces have a huge advantage over most MLM recruits. When they enlist, they go through a period of intensive, sustained training to prepare them for combat. They drill incessantly; they do conditioning exercises for hours; they study in the classroom where they prepare their minds.

There's no real bootcamp for MLM participants, but we owe them the best we have. Here's a few ideas:

* Let them know that they'll be rejected and ridiculed. Prepare them for the "real world". * Teach them a few simple techniques for handling the most common objections. * Provide a reading list of good MLM books to read, so they have something to refer to when they get "stuck". * Do three-way calls with them until they can do it for themselves and ultimately, for others. * Speak with them and praise them frequently. Let them vent. Help them work through rejection and let them know that's the price we all pay to achieve our goals.

Put bullets in the guns of your new people. Arm them with tools that will allow them to win the skirmishes we all must fight.
