subject: Information When Choosing Electric Golf Carts [print this page]

The golf cart started its life as a very basic vehicle to transport golfers around a golf course. It has lately undergone a metamorphosis and is now used for a variety of other applications. Various models specifically adapted to be used as utility vehicles are nowadays used at airports, universities, large warehouses and also on farms. Electric golf carts are also increasingly being used as personal utility vehicles.

Most golf carts are either powered by batteries that can be recharged or by gasoline. Since a battery-operated cart has a lower running cost and also costs less to maintain than a gasoline-powered one, they have for all practical purposes taken over the market. The biggest use for gasoline carts remain where a longer range is needed than what batteries can offer.

Most carts on the market nowadays can easily transport two to four adults with their golf clubs. More powerful carts for use on farms and in warehouses can, however, often transport loads in excess of five thousand pounds! They are often called utility vehicles, but are in essence still golf carts.

Sometimes golf carts are put to unexpected uses. One of these is to transport residents around retirement villages and gated communities. As a matter of fact you often get that the management of these communities encourage the use of golf carts inside the community. They create less noise than cars, don't take up such a large amount of space, cause less damage to the roads and lawns and they're normally quite safe.

It's not legal to drive a golf cart on a public road in most states and countries. There are, however exceptions. If the cart is fitted with all the necessary safety equipment such as safety belts, headlights, brake lights, turn signals and a windshield local, authorities often allow them on public roads.

What you intend to use the cart for and your specific needs should be the primary determinant when choosing a golf cart. There's a wide array of carts on the market. They come with different prices, different load capabilities and different features. Don't let your emotions run away with you and buy a cart with a lot of unnecessary features. On the other hand, make sure what you choose can do what you need it to do. If you play golf on a hilly course, you need a more powerful cart, for example, than otherwise.

When it comes to the choice of a brand name, the same principles apply. The majority of electric golf carts for sale are of high quality, but the various brands don't all have the same weak or strong points. Some brands are specifically designed for use in cold climates. If you live in a coastal city, you should perhaps consider a brand that uses aluminum to manufacture their carts - this is rust-resistant. Whatever brand you choose should be trustworthy and meet your particular requirements.
