There are quite a number of the species but for honey bees keeping, not all these species can provide substantial results, as a matter of fact, not all of them can produce honey. There are just a few of these that humans can tend or look after so as to be able to get honey. In particular, there are 3 bees that are popular in honey bees keeping.
1. The Micrapis Bees These are honey bees that are probably the least harmless because as much as they might sting someone, the effects of their sting are almost insignificant. This is down to the fact that they find it very difficult to penetrate the human skin. There are two particular small bee types that are Micrapis which are quite popular in areas of Southern and Southern eastern Asin. The Apis andreniformis and Apis florea are examples of the Micrapis and they usually build small and somewhat exposed nests in shrubs and trees. When it comes to honey bees keeping, it is mostly the Apis Florea which provides some honey.
2. The Megapis Bees This particular species of bees is probably the fiercest in honey bees keeping and a swarm of these bees can sting someone even to death. Their desire to protect their habitat from intrusion by people is something that drives them to be very dangerous and aggressive to whoever or whatever approaches the hive. Some of these Megapis Bees are actually quite huge though these are more existent in areas south of Asia. There are others however that are found in parts of Indonesia while some others can be found in the Himalayas. A notable characteristic of these bees is that they can build their beehives in really high altitude places like on trees or cliffs. Sometimes, they put up hives on very high buildings.
3. Africanized Bee or Killer Bee Known widely as the Killer Bee', the Africanized bee is a hybrid of the African Honey bee (Apis mellifera scutellata) and a number of European honey bees like the Italian bee (A. m. ligustica and A. m. iberiensis). Honey bees keeping has a wealth of species of bees that produce honey out of natural origins. This particular species of bees is a common one in Brazil and even though it has spread to areas of Northern America, they are more common in Brazilian honey bees keeping.
