subject: Poor Home Finances? Reduce Your Annual Outgoings By Hundreds With Just A Little Planning [print this page]

No matter what you're doing in life, whether you're looking to go on holiday with the family or you're considering launching a new business venture, the one thing that will always make sure you cover as many eventualities as possible and minimize the amount of problems that will occur is planning.

And as much as trying to arrange a holiday for a family of 20 might require for you to have your head screwed on properly (and tightly), you don't have to have any professional experience in planning or preparing, as it's simply a process of common sense.

Therefore, if you're in a bit of a financial mess with your outgoings at home, whilst hiring a Financial Advisor is a possibility, you can generally get a good handle on them yourself if you take the time to sit down, go through all of your outgoings and plan what you're going to do next.

To start with, you need to put a list together of every regular outgoing you have. No matter if it's for 10 pound for your homephone or 500 pound for your mortgage, if it leaves your bank account on a regular basis, make a note of it, as well as any related details.

Once you have your list together, you need to divide everything and place them into one of two columns - necessity or luxury.

Necessities are those outgoings that you need to pay in order to survive and live a legal life and are things such as your mortgage, Council Tax, gas and electric and groceries.

Luxuries are those things that you don't actually need, but enjoy having. Gym memberships, magazine subscriptions, mobiles phones and even putting money aside for holidays can all be classed as luxury expenses.

Whilst the easiest way to save money would be to remove all of your luxuries - which is something that is recommended if you're in a particularly dire financial state - it's not often necessary.

Instead, you need to see if you can find a way of reducing how much you pay for them so that you can still have the luxury, but also more available money

Using a gym memberships and mobiles phones as examples, you will generally be able to lower your gym membership level, saving yourself up to 50 percent on your membership cost, although it will mean that you are more restricted in when you go.

For mobile phones, simply give your carrier a call and explain that you're struggling to pay your monthly bill. Usually preferring to see you pay less money each month than lose you as a customer altogether, it's likely that they'll reduce your bill (which may also mean your inclusive minutes and texts will decrease).

No matter what situation you are in financially, there is always a way out. Whether you just want to sort out your finances to see if you can save any money for an extra holiday or you're tens of thousands of pounds in debt, with just a little time spent planning, you'll be able to meet your aim in a respectable amount of time.
