subject: Preparing For A J2ee Interview [print this page]

So you have just finished the certification course and now you are ready to take up some j2ee interviews. You might have studied all the topics thoroughly but you also need to pay attention to some popular j2ee questions that come up in interviews. The company or dream job that you are applying for has a limited number of seats. Interviewers have no time to assess all your knowledge on java. They have a very short time frame to ask a few questions and analyze your skills. You should be able to answer these questions in the best possible manner. There is no point in leaving popular interview questions aside, just because you have read the whole book. Some of the questions are designed to access the practical knowledge of aspirants and you will need to know how exactly real applications are designed using java enterprise frameworks. Theoretical knowledge may not help you that much in these technical job interviews.

Make a few notes of the important interview questions and go through them for a few days. You must have clear cut ideas to be delivered on important topics. Here are a few things that you should keep in mind to prepare for an interview -

1. Learn about the 'abstract schema' and all related concepts. You should know the main points and also think of the ways to convey your understanding on this topic. Abstract schema is the portion of an entity bean's deployment descriptor. This descriptor defines the bean's persistent relationships and fields as well. It will take a very short time to learn about the basic characteristics of these descriptors.

2. Many interview questions are related to 'ACID' concepts and 'access control' related topics. Access control and ACID concepts are asked because they are important in commercial software development. You must know the ways to create constraints, conditions through your programs. Confidentiality and integrity of data being handled is most important task that people have to deal with. During the course of a j2ee interview, such questions are highly likely to be asked. Prepare well in advance and give your own direction to the interview.

3. You may face very basic questions in a java interview as well. Do not take the smallest concepts like 'attributes' and 'applets' for granted. Even if you have been using them for a long time, you must be able to explain it to a panel of interviewers. Your explanation will be the sole criterion for your selection in an interview.

4. Go through the basic points on java server, application configuration files and application content provider. These concepts are usually covered during j2ee interviews that last half an hour less. Interviews with short duration will focus on two or three basic questions at first. Some of the most common interview questions asked in a short interview is about 'backing bean', 'bean managed persistence' and 'bean management transaction'. Interviewers check your capability to grasp the fundamentals and pay little attention to the theoretical knowledge you have.
