subject: Like My Status [print this page] Facebook is taking the internet by storm, Some of us are so hooked it actually feels like we are in touch with people. It's crazy, someone ask when was the last time I heard from a mutual friend of ours and because I had been glued to my laptop reading status updates, comments and looking through pictures, I responded "oh I just spoke to them!" No I didn't! I was fooled by Facebook to think that because this person puts their everyday activities on the web that I am actually in touch with them.
Has it really come to this! No more phone calls to say hello, or road trips to see friends that have relocated, now it's just tag me in your photos so I can have a copy. WOW! Don't get me wrong Facebook has done wonders for me. I found all my friends from High School and Junior High School that I lost contact with. I advertise my business and my products, I can speak to a group of people without leaving my laptop and I am so addicted to them damn games! Who needs a PS3 or Xbox. They may not be the best graphics but I am sure to set my alarm clock to make sure my food don't burn or my crops don't wither.
Most times I am on the computer anyway. This is what I do. I search the internet for cool and interesting things and save them in my favorites bar ( I know I need a life) but there is a reason for this. I started a blog for my business "Decorated Elements" on Blogger. It's basically to let people into my life as a novice event planner and cake decorator so I am always looking for tips and trends to keep up with. Now Facebook on the other hand which is usually opened in another tab so I can frequently check back to see if anyone "liked" my status has no purpose after about an hour but it's just so appealing! I thought it was just me, then I realized that the same people were logged on every time I logged on.
I have found over 300 people and have a friend count of about 450 including friends I made playing the games. I have even seen family reunions planned on Facebook, now if that does not blow your mind than I don't know. The Social Networking craze has gotten so bad that friends who don't have an account don't usually know whats going on. Tell me how I am friends with basically all of my boyfriends family because he has no account and I now give him information about whats going on and where! That's crazy. If I have no internet I find myself feeling like I am missing something but really it's the addiction calling, I feel like if I miss 22 minutes I am missing the world! HA!
I started social networking to keep up with my younger sister. My mom did not have the patience to monitor her on the computer so I was enlisted as a spy, later to be called a snitch! No problem, if you don't want me to tell Mommy then put some clothes on! I see people posing for pictures and I automatically know they have a Facebook account, why else would you hold your cell phone over your head with one finger in your mouth, poking out your behind, that's the typical Facebook photo pose! Am I right?
Sad to say I am a Facebook addict and even though I don't understand the fascination with getting notifications from everybody who commented on your quote, which is usually someone typing song lyrics or how someone pissed them off, or my best one if "Like my status if............" I am not ashamed of what I do because admitting it is the first step to getting cured!
