You will need a Facebook account to able to play. All you need is a valid email address and some basic details. Facebook is also free. Facebook is a free social networking website which only requires an email address to get started. As you dive deeper into Farmville you will notice all the intricacies like ribbons, gifts, leveling up, buildings, decorations, trees, and much more.

You will find that the most logical and usually quickest way of increasing your coins and XP is simply planting and harvesting your crops often. The three steps to harvesting crops must be followed in order, this is plowing the land, planting the crop, and harvesting when the crop is done.

You must firstly ensure that you plow the land. This gets it ready for the next step. The entire farm is made up of little squares, these squares are called plots. Your farmer can only plow one plot of land at once. You may purchase a tractor when you gain $30,000 of coins which can plow multiple plots at once, this has its drawbacks as it actually requires fuel to run!

The next step to learning how to play Farmville, after plowing, is planting the seeds! You can then wait while your little babies grow, each type of plant will take a different amount of time to grow. If you want to see a list of all the growing times, profits per month and per seed, then I strongly suggest looking at the Farmville spreadsheet.

Harvesting is collecting the fruit or grains that come from what you planted. Doing this is what earns you coins and experience points. Once you have harvested all of your plots, you can start plowing again and then re-plant your seeds.

So now that you know the basis of how to play Farmville, take a look further into the game:

When you first start out, there will only be a certain amount of crops/tree's that you can plant until you gain more experience and unlock some more. You can gain experience in a few ways; helping out on a friends farm, harvesting crops, etc are just a couple of suggestions.

You can also expand your farm to allow for more crops and therefore can be a larger potential to gain more coins. Expanding the farm can be done a couple of ways. The easiest and most common way on land expansion is to earn enough coins and have the right amount of neighbours to upgrade to the next size. Otherwise, you can purchase the land expansion with "Farm Cash" which is your own real money.

As you gain more coins and more experience you will level up, leveling up will give you access to more things such new crops, special items, etc.

I can't explain how to play Farmville without also telling you about how you can earn ribbons for a lot of things. You will discover that you naturally gain loads of ribbons in your day to day farming, things like adopting a selected number of animals to your farm and planting specific crops can award you with ribbons. Ribbons are a means of showing off your accomplishments to friends and neighbors.

The most important 'how to play Farmville' tip is actually to just farm smart. Smart farming is basically the art of knowing what you are going to plant and when. You must also harvest and replant your crops without delay. For example, by planting a 2 hour crop you must be ready to harvest and replant in 2 hours. I can't stress it enough, but you mustn't ever let your crops wither, this will result in lost xp necessary to advance in the game. Things like expanding your farm, buying lots of seeds etc are all fantastic things to have you earning coins at a rapid pace. You can also get XP from adding neighbors! This regularly a terrific way to get some help on your farm. You can get some great ideas of how you want your farm to look by browsing your neighbors farms.
