Cooperative gamers do not like fighting other players or racing another players. They want to constantly improve their player and they like new ways to do so. Cooperative players will occasionally play solo but that is usually reserved for the competitive person who is slowed down by other types. However, in all MMORPGs fighting like a group is at least as fast as soloing so that is usually where you will find the cooperative gamer. Cooperative gamers don't like to give or place blame because it's ineffective. If the group loses a battle then try again! It's all about gaining EXP, getting new equipment, and beating new challenges (which basically breaks down the MMORPG into a few mini games).
Competitive players want ways to tell other they are the best. As such they are always interested in PvP because there is no better way then pwning another player to say you are the best. Now, some PvP players are concerned with fair fights and a few are not. You may fall into either category but both are competitive gamers. Competitive gamers look for one of two things - ladder systems or free for all (FFA) PvP. The ladder system but be self sufficient and so must the FFA PvP. By that, I mean you must be able to promote your player at a rate equal to or higher than PvE counterparts. Grouping is just a means to an end and power is paramount to friendship. If you find a game that adds ladders or PvP as an afterthought you will not be happy.
Cooperative-competitive players are actually the opposite, not a mish-mash, of both competitive and cooperative gamers. They like fighting other players and they like racing through content. But they don't care for ladder systems (unless they are group oriented) and they do not care for FFA PvP. In translation, they want structured competition and not free form competition that true competitive player desire. This means finding new dungeons and different creatures to kill first or faster or better than every another guild/clan. This also means waging epic wars opposite other guilds to conquer land. This does not mean getting new loot or new equipment constantly as the cooperative-competitive gamer knows his true strength lies in his allies.
Lastly, the social gamer is easy to identify. They don't care what they are doing as long as it is structured and group friendly. The ideal game needs chat channels that are always full, quests that always involve grouping, some amount of downtime (typically challenging PvE), and structured access to another players. This is the easiest gamer to identify but has the toughest time finding the right game. A social gamer usually will not know if a game is right for them until they have played it so they usually just look for the most popular game. This is a great start but maybe not the best. Typically a social gamer will find his/her home with the cooperative-competitive players but that's not always the case.
