subject: How To Get Ideas For Great Niches [print this page]

Once you get started in this business and get a few profitable websites under your belt, finding ideas for niches is not going to be a problem. I run across at least two a day.

Getting into the swing of finding profitable niches can be a little difficult when you're new, though. Because of this it's important to have ways to jump-start your creativity. I do this by visiting certain sites on the Internet that get my juices flowing.

Here's a list of several of some of those sites.

EzineArticles

43 Things

Amazon

Shopping.com

Google Trends

eHow

EzineArticles is great for getting content and article ideas. It also works great to help you think of niche possibilities. I discovered a new niche just the other day that I'm quickly building out a site for.

Amazon and Shopping.com are where I get some of my best idea niches. Both have pages that show their top searches. Shopping.com goes a step further by showing you what keywords people used to actually find whatever item they were looking for.

I hang out on Google Trends for about fifteen minutes every day. You can snag great ideas for niches there. You have to watch out, though. There are a lot of things that look like niches, but really are not. For instance, Britney Spears is consistently one of the top searched keywords. You could build a site and probably get a ton of traffic without a lot of work using just her name as your main keyword phrase. Is that traffic going to buy anything? Probably not? So, Britney Spears is not a niche.

When you brainstorm anything it's important not to judge. The first step of any brainstorming session should be just collecting information-lots of it.

When I use the above sites, I'm not judging. I'm just looking and thinking... Hmmm, that looks like a possibility.

What you want to do is to make a list of about ten niche possibilities. Actually write them on a piece of paper. If it was a website that sparked your niche idea, then bookmark the website so you can look at it later on should you actually choose that particular niche.

Another great tool for you to use during this phase is Google Notebooks. Google notebooks essentially allows you to cut and paste parts of websites into organized folders called "notebooks". Since it's all online, Google Notebooks is a great way to start organizing your brainstorming.
