Las VegasThe Wisconsin Defense stymied UNLV with penetration forcing errant throws all night from Rebel Quarterbacks and the offensive line moved the line of scrimmage forward enabling Badger backs to rumble over defenders. The final score of 41-21 is not indicative of the absolute domination of this game. A few costly turnovers in the second quarter produced a swing of possibly 21 points in the favor of UNLV. In the third quarter Wisconsin got more focused and outscored the Rebels 24-0. Its clear to see why Chris Borland was named Big Ten Freshman of the Year Last Year. He is instinctive, aggressive to the ball, sure tackling, and great at beating offensive lineman when Wisconsin goes to their Badger Package. Borland had one sack, two tackles for loss, and finished with 5 tackles. In total, the Badgers had 4 sacks for minus 22 yards and moved the pocket backwards for most of the night. UNLV finished 10-26 passing and where outgained 475 to 217 thanks to RB Ball and RB Clay who helped the Badgers run for 278 yards.
Key Points:
Wisconsin: The front 7 showed good quickness and strength and didnt seem to miss Schofield. The secondary was not tested as the UNLV QBs were under duress most of the time. The offense did what was expected but did it well. The middle of the offensive line was often seen pushing defensive tackles 5 yards backwards on many plays. Besides throwing one pick, QB Tolzen was accurate and threw to both sides of the field something that I noticed was lacking from watching him last year on film.
