Towards the end of a working life one has usually built up some assets, maybe even some money in the bank. Often wills have been written to make sure families are going to be taken care of when the time comes. We plan our financial future and even pay professionals so that it is done right.But why is it that this future planning of our life and our finances does not include our health and wellness in any way? Even if retirement is still many years away we may ask ourselves what are we doing right now today to make sure we do have a future that eliminates as much risk of disease and disability as possible.Most people just 'wing it' hoping that they will not get sick. They do not bother to exercise and eat 'whatever whenever' hoping that this will be enough to get them through. The muscular system is the body's engine and when muscles are allowed to become weak and flabby it drags the entire body into a downward health spiral. Muscle tissue is lost at the rate of one half pound per year and this rate double after age 50. This loss not only siphons strength it downgrades all of the body's systems and processes including the immune system. This leaves one vulnerable to the killer diseases that stalk us in our inactive and sedentary modern world.Muscle tissue is just the beginning; not getting the proper activity the human body needs affects all of the major organs like the liver, brain and the heart and lung system which lose their ability to function efficiently. As the bones of the skeleton lose their strength they become brittle, the joints the separate the bones become stiff, painful and easily injured. Important things like the quality of sleep is affected, mental and emotional health cannot operate at full strength as de-stressing mechanisms and 'feel good' chemicals are not being produced to calm and soothe the soul.Those who do not exercise usually become overweight - even if it cannot be measured on the bathroom scales it can be deep inside the abdomen wrapped around major organs hindering their functioning. This is dangerous fat as it releases chemicals that increase the risk of heart disease, cancer and diabetes and many other conditions. Really, health and wellness planning is equally as important as financial planning as without health everything else is rendered useless. When you do not feel well or are sick nothing else matters. So, take it upon yourself not be a victim of the deadly diseases that are epidemic all around us today. They can not only rob you of your health they can take your mind, suck away your life savings along with your dignity. But the good news is you can protect yourself from 80 percent of these killers by taking the time to keep yourself strong and fit with a strength training program 2-3 times each week. Combined with a healthy eating plan and you being proactive you can be as sure as it gets that you will not have your future stolen from you.
