There are two great rivers flowing through the whole province: Yangtze River from west to east and Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal from north to south. 1. Nanjing
Lies on the south bank of the Yangtze River, Nanjing, the capital of Jiangsu Province, is one of the most delightful of Chinese cities. Known as the Capital City of Six or Ten Dynasties in China's history, it has a brilliant cultural heritage.
2. Suzhou
Suzhou is located in the center of the Yangtze Delta, in the south of Jiangsu Province, with Shanghai to the east, Zhejiang Province to the south, Wuxi City to the west and the Yangtze River to the north. Since 42% area of the city is covered by water, including a vast number of ponds and streams, Suzhou is praised as the 'Oriental Venice'. Taihu Lake, four fifths of which is in the territory of Suzhou, is one of the four largest fresh lakes in China, with East Hill, West Hill and other scenic spots in its vicinity. The city is cut by the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal from north to south. Together with its mild climate, making it an available destination all year round, fertile landscape and abundance of produce, it is no wonder that Suzhou is called 'paradise on earth'.
3. Yangzhou
Location: situated between north latitude 3211' - 3325', east longitude ;119 - 120; in the confluence of the Yangtze River and the Grand Canal; in the south of Jiangsu Province, the north bank of lower reaches of the Yangtze River, the south end of Jianghuai Plain; Neighboring Areas: Zhejiang, Anhui, Shandong provinces and Shanghai Municipality
4. Nantong
Location: Standing on the Yangtze River Delta, Nantong is in the central part of Jiangsu Province. The ports of China's coastal area can be reached through its estuary to the sea. Proceeding northward along the Yangtze River, the city can connect the thoroughfares with cities in Jiangsu, Anhui, Hubei, Hunan and Sichuan provinces. Physical Features: Nantong City is on the north bank of the Yangtze River, neighboring north Jiangsu Plain and separated from Shanghai by the Yangtze River. It is a fine port and the hinge of coastal transportation in Jiangsu's coastal area.
5. Kunshan
Located about halfway between Shanghai to the east and Suzhou to the west, Kunshan City is the eastern gateway of Jiangsu Province. Currently, there are about 650,000 permanent residents living in Kunshan, distributed over an area of about 927 square kilometers (about 358 square miles). Ten towns and a national economical and technological zone are under the administration of the city government.
