subject: Pertshire in Scotland [print this page] Looking for somewhere to go for a few days, then why not considering spending your time in the area of Scotland known as Perthshire. It lies at the very heart of this country and can be reached by car, train or bus from the main cities of Glasgow and Edinburgh. By car the journey should take no more than an hour, whereas by train or bus it may take slightly longer.
When you do come to Perthshire you have a number of activities that you can do which will allow you to explore its wonderful countryside better. The best way of seeing Perthshire in all its natural glory is by going for a walk or hike. There are a variety of different walks well sign posted that you can take.
However if you are someone who doesn't walk on a regular basis then the low level walks that take you that take you through secluded glens and over hills such as The Ochils and Glen Devon are worth considering. These allow you to enjoy not only the beautiful scenery but also may offer you the chance to see the wildlife that inhabits it.
One particular low level walk to consider doing is that known as "The Cadger's Way". This one starts in the market town (Burgh) of Auchterarder and finishes with you arriving at Glen Devon. The route is one that used to be used by packmen many decades ago, but is worth doing. This is because at the highest point (1500 ft above sea level) of the walk you are provided with breathtaking views across the Perthshire countryside. Then keep following the path down until you reach Glen Devon where you will find a place that not only allows you somewhere to sit and rest but great food and may a dram or two of whiskey to help you get your energy back and take the chill off.
