subject: Cornish Cider [print this page] When it comes to spending time in Cornwall why not try some of the local drinks that are brewed here. Certainly the most well known of all the kinds of drinks produced in Cornwall today are of course Cider.
Today although the number of farms that actually grow the apples and then make the cider themselves has reduced. Quite a few allow you to buy their product directly from them. Also you may want to try some of the Scrumpy that they produce as well.
As well as these farms allow you to purchase their product some will also offer you a tour of their premises. So not only do you see where the fruit is grown and harvested but also the process that is undertaken to then make it in to cider or Scrumpy.
What you will immediately notice when you do get a chance to sample some ciders is that they taste completely different from the commercially manufactured ones. These actually don't contain so much gas and have a much stronger apple flavour to them.
If you do actually decide to purchase some of this wonderful product make sure that you opt for what is known as vintage farm cider. Also after your purchase make sure that you don't allow it to remain in the bottle for too long and keep it in a fridge. Unfortunately leaving it in the bottle won't help the cider to taste any better than it already is.
Along with cider another drink that is very unique to Cornwall is Cornish Mead. This is made up of a wine or liqueur to which has then been added honey, yeast and Jamaican Root Ginger. It not only tastes good but is believed to have other benefits for those who drink it.
