It is a total of 12 times World Champion. 2 time NWA World Heavyweight Champion, six time WCW World Champion, 2 time WCW International World Heavyweight Champion and 3 time TNA World Heavyweight Champion.
Borden was hired as the fourth member of the Powerteam USA, a professional wrestling tag team led by Red Bastien and Rick Bassman containing Borden and three other former bodybuilders. Borden trained himself under the orders of Bill Anderson and Bastien and Bassman for 10 weeks to make its debut in November 1985 as Flash Borden.
Power Team USA was dissolved in 1986, and two of its members, Borden and Jim "Justice" Hellwig (later Ultimate Warrior), formed a team called the Blade Runners. Flash Borden changed his name to Sting while Hellwig became Rock. The Blade Runners wrestled in the Universal Wrestling Federation based in Shreveport until Rock left the federation in mid-1986. Left without a partner, Borden joined Hotstuff and Hyatt International, a clan led by Eddie Gilbert and Missy Hyatt. He won the UWF Tag Team Championship twice with Gilbert in 1986, and a third time with Rick Steiner in 1987.
Originally a heel wrestler, Sting became a match against babyface after Terry Taylor in mid-1987, where his former manager Gilbert came through for Taylor, costing Sting the match. After a settling of accounts with a two cons, Gentleman Chris Adams cleared the ring and became an instrument in the face turn when Adams asked Sting if Sting was with him or against him in his feud with Taylor and Gilbert.
When WCW was detached from the NWA, Sting has been recognized as the first WCW World Heavyweight Champion. Hulk Hogan joined WCW in 1994 and Hogan and Sting teamed this time to face the Dungeon of Doom. At that time, Ric Flair has sought the help of Sting in a match against Arn Anderson and Brian Pillman, but during the match, Ric Flair turned against Sting and reformed with Anderson and Pillman, the Four Horsemen. Sting and Ric Flair continued to quarrel and when Sting would lose, Lex Luger came to help him.
In 1996 Sting was up against The Outsiders (Kevin Nash and Scott Hall) and WWF in a match full of incident at Bash at the Beach in 1996, Sting, Luger and "Macho Man" Randy Savage were defeated by Nash Scott Hall and their third ally, which proved to be Hulk Hogan, and they eventually formed the nWo.
The nWo soon presented a fake Sting (played by Jeff Farmer and later by Chris Harris), to make the audience believe that Sting had turned his coat against WCW. When the real Sting returned he was very upset by the reaction of the crowd and the fact that many people believed he had in fact betrayed WCW, so he left WCW. However, from time to time he reappeared in its new form similar to The Crow. He began to use a baseball bat as a weapon of choice.
Clash of the Champions for 1997 at the entrance of Sting, the following message was delivered to the nWo:
"When the heart of a man is full Dillus, it burns, died, and the shadows darken his soul. From the ashes, an exceptional man raised a curse, an aberration that should be corrected. We turn our eyes toward the sky in Dun Waiting time champion, somebody who instilled fear in the heart of the black man who created it. The battle between good and evil has begun. He returned to WCW and the nWo help repel a title match against "Hollywood" Hulk Hogan at Starrcade 1997, winning controversially due to a decision of the special referee Bret Hart. Sting then lost the title against Randy Savage in 1998, which was actually a member of the nWo. Later in 1998, nWo split because of differences between Hogan and Nash. Nash formed the nWo Wolfpac, Sting joined two months later. In 1998, he faced Bret Hart at Halloween Havoc 1998 for the WCW United States Championship. Sting loses the match controversially as Bret avit used the bat from Sting and brass knuckles.
Sting tried to turn heel in 1999 (unsuccessfully) when it defeated Hogan to win the world title, but this turn was poorly received by fans and it became soon face. He then continued to fight Lex Luger. In 2000 Sting had an intense feud with Vampiro, which sparked the popularity of Vampiro. He was "injured" by Scott Steiner in 2000, leaving WCW for good. However, he returned for the final game of the last episode of WCW Monday Night Nitro, Ric Flair to defeat.
