subject: Terran Strategies For Starcraft 2 [print this page]

The Reaper Rush is often an early game rush you want to use to harass your opponent. Reapers units are actually quite weak. They're not heavily armored, and are easy to kill. However, unlike other Terran units they have the ability to jump up and down from cliffs. This gives them the advantage of being able to travel virtually anywhere on the map quickly. If used properly the reaper rush is one of the better terran strategies for starcraft 2.

As mentioned above, since reapers aren't one of the more battle hardy units in Starcraft 2, you need move quickly. Ideally you want to scout your opponent very early on so that you know where his location is. As soon as your Reaper is ready you need to be able to rush right in to your opponents base before he has time to defend himself.

The typical build order for the Reaper Rush is:

9 Barracks

9 Refinery

10 Supply Depot

Stealth is the key to a successful Reaper Rush. Stealth is also what makes the Reaper Rush one of the more effective terran strategies for starcraft 2. When executing your attack you want to sneak through an area on your opponents base where he doesn't have any units present, ideally with 3 or 4 reapers. You'll want to stay against the wall and out of site and concentrate your fire on the workers. The goal of the reaper rush is to damage your opponents economy, this is what makes it one of the more effective terran strategies for starcraft 2.

Reapers aren't heavily armored, but they make up for this with speed. Because of their speed it's possible to kite your opponents early units. Also since reapers can traverse cliffs easily use this to your advantage. If you want to use the reapers in mid to late game you want to keep them separated from your main army. As mentioned previously, because of their light armor they're virtually useless in battle however, you can use reapers to attack your opponents expansion points. When your opponent sends his forces to investigate, you can take your main forces and attack his base. This tactic is one of the more devious terran strategies for starcraft 2, but it works!

Another tactic you can use for the reapers is to wait until you engage your opponent in battle and then send your reapers to attack his base and supply line. Your opponent will be so focused on the battle that your reapers will have the opportunity to decimate your opponents economy.
