How To Protect Your Family
How To Protect Your Family

There are several common sense things that you can do to make your home a smaller target.

Landscaping: keep shrubs low and away from windows to avoid giving an intruder cover to enter your home undetected.

Lighting: flood lights with motion devices make your home less inviting for a burglary.

Keep your garage door closed: don't advertise what you have to those passing by your home.

Lock your car doors: keep cell phones, Ipods, GPS, purses etc. secure and out of sight to avoid the temptation for a quick snatch.

Don't leave newspapers in the driveway for days, or yellow pages by the door. It looks like you're out of town and an easy target.

Don't put the empty box your 55" flat screen TV came in out by the road with the trash. That screams look what I just bought. It also says FREE TO A GOOD HOME!

If your home does'nt have deadbolts on the doors; install them now, also install a peephole on your door.

Secure your windows and keep the blinds closed to protect from prying eyes.

Teach small children not to answer the door for any reason.

Teenagers, especially girls, should be extremely careful when responding to question like "are your parents home, or can they come to the door". Never say "my parents aren't home right now, or they're out of town". Teach them to respond with "they can't come to the door right now, or they're busy at the moment". Because F.B.I. statistics report that 60% of all rapes occur during a home invasion. Don't let your daughter become part of that statistic.

Keep valuables, i.e. cash, jewelry, out of sight and secure from an opportunistic intruder. They're looking for a quick grab and go.

The average burglary loss is in excess of $2,000. Can you afford to experience that loss?

Consider these recent F.B.I Statistics

BURGLARIES: 8640 each day or 1 every 10 seconds with almost 50% occurring in the south

73% of burglaries occur during daylight hours when you are not home.

Homes without a monitored security system are 3 times as likely to be burglarized.

PROPERTY CRIMES: 28,800 every day or 1 every 3 seconds

FORCIBLE RAPES: 720 every day 1 occurs every 2 minutes

HOME INVASIONS: 8,000+ every day

38% of assaults, and 60% of all rapes occur in home invasions.

1 out of 5 homes will experience a break-in or invasion

Fire kills more Americans than all natural disasters combined

Fire is the 3rd leading cause of accidental death in American homes.

Over 50% of residential fires and 3/5th of residential fatalities occur in homes with smoke alarms that do not work.

The reality is that we all need to take proactive steps to protect our families, our homes and possessions .

So, What can YOU do to really protect your family and not become an F.B.I statistic?

INSTALL A MONITORED HOME SECURITY SYSTEM. This provides 4 channels of protection.

1.Burglary: Detects home intrusion, sounds the alarm and deploys the police to your home.

2.Medical: At the touch of a button you can dispatch emergency services to your home without messing around with 911. Medical pendants also work with your system giving you mobility.

3.Fire: With the smoke/heat detector the Fire Department will be immediately summoned to your home whether you're home or not for the ultimate in fire protection. Plus your insurance company will love you, giving you their biggest discounts.

4.Hostage/Ambush: Imagine being forced inside your home and commanded to disarm your alarm system. Armed with a unique code that appears to turn off your alarm, instantly alerts us to send all available units racing to your home without lights flashing or sirens blaring, to reverse the situation and get you safely out of harm's way.

I met Ray a few months ago while talking to folks in his neighborhood following a burglary on his street. He had just returned from a long out of state run (he's a truck driver) and he was interested especially since his wife didn't feel secure while he was on the road. He didn't have time right then to talk to me since he needed to take his truck in for servicing, but we arranged time later in the day to speak. "It sounds good" he said, "but we need to think about it". Each time we talked he was on the road but he said "I'll call you when I get back in town". Then one day out of the blue he calls and says "I'm ready to get the house set up". It turns out the day prior they kicked in his front door while his wife was away for a couple of hours. They took the flat screen, the laptop, some jewelry, the usual stuff. "I'm ready now", he said.

Sally really liked what we showed her, but "we just can't afford it right now because money's tight, if anything changes I'll give you a call". Something did change, she called a few weeks later and was ready to go, because they had just been broken into. When asked how she was able to afford the system now, she said we cut out pizza night for the family each week and eat cold cuts that night".

Latoya was broken into and when I visited her home she was at work. So I left a flyer on her door. I didn't hear from her for 2 weeks, then late one evening she called wanting to know if the offer for the security system was still available. I assured her that it was and, when would be a good time to meet with her, she asked "how late do you work"? I told her I could come that evening. You see she had just been broken in the second time in two weeks and was anxious to protect her home. We were able to get her protected the next day. Sometimes lightning does strike in the same place twice.

Its a scenario I see play out every day when I speak to people who are :

not interested

have a dog

have a gun

can't afford it

there's always someone at home

we have a policeman who lives across the street

we've lived here 20 years and nothing has ever happened

we look out for each other in the neighborhood

We all feel that we are bullet proof. That it will never happen to us, and yet statistically 1 out of 5 homes will be burglarized. We can help you beat the odds!
