subject: Let's Learn How To Make A Pinata [print this page]

A pinata is a paper mache which is used to cover over the body of the pinata. It is usually created with bright colours and used during the time of a Mexican celebration, as an essential symbol of the country's tradition and public festivity. It is said that pinatas originally came from China and was taken to the western world by Marco Polo. Traditionally Pinatas were created in the form of a six-pointed star filled with fruits, confectionery, and small toys but today they are designed in a variety of types, shapes and sizes, including animals, plants, and flowers. At the fiestas, the pinatas are placed in the air and children who have their eyes covered, take turns to hit the pinatas. When the pinata is hit hard enough, then it eventually breaks and release the sweets and toys that it had inside. By reading this article you can actually understand how to make your own pinata at home.

Things you will need:

A container

2 cups of flour

1 balloon

3 cups of butter

Newspaper

Markers, crayons or paint

String

Colored crepe paper

Instructions are as follows:

1. First you need to inflate the large balloon and tie the ends with the string. The balloon will outline the cimple body of the pinata.

2. Make a glue for the paper mache by using the flour and water collectively into a container, until it forms a smooth texture. You can heat up the flour and water to create a more efficient paste.

3. Use the scissors and cut the newspaper into a set of lengthy 1 inch thick strips and dip into the paste mixture. Then cautiously put the strips onto the balloon until it is covered, leaving a hole at the top. Now set it aside and allow the balloon to dry.

4. Then take some extra newspaper dipped in the paste and put an additional coating of newspaper over the balloon and allow it to dry.

5. Now repeat this method with one more coating, and leave a hole at the top. When the paste is dry, pop it and take out the balloon.

6. Now you can color and beautify your pinata with different ideas and colors. You can also hang colored crepe paper from the side and bottom area.

7. Punch two small gap into the top near the opening and take a big piece of string to place through each hole and fill the pinata (through the hole you left at the top) with candy, toys, or any other fun treats. You can also fill it with strips of newspaper so the treats are not all in one location.

8. Once it is finished, join your pinata in the ceiling using the string and now you can start to hit the pinata.

Tips and Warnings

* When you are constructing a pinata, use your imagination and try to be as innovative as you possibly can. Design your pinata into the shape you desire such as an animal, flower, and others. You can also use thick colored paper loaded with crushed up newspaper and glue or tape it to apply any details to your simple pinata frame.
