subject: The Script: Far From Just "Breaking Even" with ‘Science and Faith' [print this page] The Script hit it big with me in early 2008 when I first heard their soon to be hit, "Breakeven" on radio XFM in London. Since then the song has traveled across the big pond and down the grapevine here in the US, claiming several awards and gotten more spins on radio waves in this country than I'd ever imagine.
Back to present day, The Script releases their sophomore album Science and Faith to much more anticipation than their self titled album when the band was nothing more than an unknown indie group in 2007. The album title is no surprise considering the lyrics behind the hit, Breakeven and the band looks to bring more of the same to this, and does to a point.
However what makes Science and Faith worth your hard earned cash is the amazing track list! Featuring an unlimited amount of potential hits, from beginning to end, more than likely this will be a CD that doesn't leave your preferred CD list anytime soon.
The first track, a song that feels like it could have come straight out of one of Jon Bon Jovi's lost notebooks; "You Won't Feel A Thing" combines a country feel to a modern pop tone to give us an instant classic to this band's bag of hits. Although the first WORDS to the song don't start until almost a minute into the track, it's well worth the wait.
Track 3 "Nothing" drops the country feel and gives us the power of pop, only to the power of 10. "Nothing"will flat out be the hit song off this album, and for good reason, just listen. (can I say how funny it is to give a good review and say that "nothing" will be a hit? lol) Anyway, if you're looking for the "Breakeven" song off this album, skip right to the third track for that one.
Other notable songs include Track 6, Long Gone and Moved On' and Track 7 Dead Man Walking', but really you can't go wrong with any of these songs as a steady theme and feel accompanies the entire album. I'm recommending this for fans of Goo Goo Dolls, Jacks Mannequin, and Razorlight.
Album Grade: B+
