subject: Desperate Housewives Season 7: Can New Cast Members Wake Up Sleepy Soap? [print this page]

Now this is the guilty pleasure of the TV world. This is the nighttime soap opera. This is the one show that you can't seem to turn away from. It has so many juicy secrets and it seems that women and men eat it up. Yes, I said men! Would you believe that more men have written about this show then women? It is not what you think either. You would think that they are talking about the girls but they want to know what is going on as much as the women.

So what do think about how they started the season? Many viewers were not happy that they went in fast forward for three years and many were not happy with the changes that were made to the characters. They did eventually put it back together a bit. Eva Longoria Parkers (Gabrielle Solis) character was the one that many complained about. They took this gorgeous and well-dressed women then made her this chubby bunny. That is one of the many comments about her character.

Also, the plot line seemed to some to be a bit dull when it first started back up this season, but it looks as though they got it back. The plot thickened when Edie Britt (Nicollette Sheridan) came back with her new and crazy husband (Neil McDonough) better known to us all as Dave Williams. Other characters on the show did not get such a warm welcome back though. Some were very unhappy with what they had done to Carlos Solis as well as Kyle MacLachlan or Orson that is. Many felt that making him a kleptomaniac was not the best way to go, so what do you think?

While approaching that itchy seven year anniversary bodes trouble for even the most happily married couples, the seventh year is also a vulnerable time for hit TV shows, such as Desperate Housewives. It is natural for long-time viewers to become bored with a show's characters and irritated by their quirks, while craving something new and exciting.

Although new cast members have rotated through Desperate Housewives since its second season, new additions to the cast in season 7 could determine if the Sunday night staple will return for season eight - or head to divorce court.

The Nielsen prime-time TV Ratings survey reported in zap2it.com reveals Desperate Housewives managed to snag the #10 ratings slot for the 2009-10 TV season, barely squeaking past #11, NCIS: Los Angeles.

But fiercer competition for viewers could overwhelm Desperate Housewives this year, with an unusually high number of tantalizing new TV shows set to launch, many of which boast the pedigrees of some of Hollywood's most talented actors and writers, including Kathy Bates, Maura Tierney and David E. Kelley.

Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry went fishing for top talent, too, successfully netting three charismatic actors, Brian Austin Green, Vanessa Williams and Lainie Kazan, popular stars who could prove big enough fish to revive the sleepy show.
