subject: You Can Afford A Maid! [print this page]

Many of us are trained to think that not only is it our personal, innate responsibility to do all our own house-cleaning (no matter how busy our lives are) but that hiring a maid is a frivolous waste of money, a status symbol for the wealthy. I have come to believe that none of this is necessarily true and that it makes economic sense in many cases to hire a maid or domestic service to help with the housework.

As a working parent, I found it extremely difficult to find the time to keep my house at the level of tidiness Id like it to be, and I found myself staying up late and spending my days off trying to catch up with my cleaning duties. I always fell behind on the home front and I must admit the mounting tasks seemed almost overwhelming at times, affecting my mood and performance at work and my attitude at home.

I began to consider hiring a maid but I still felt like the expense wasnt justified - Id just have to do my best at managing on my own. At some point, though, I began to think that maybe I had been looking at the problem in the wrong way. I began thinking that if I effectively make x amount per hour, then my time at home as well as at my work can be considered as being worth the same rate - I wouldnt agree to work late or on the weekends at anything lower than my current hourly worth, so if I can hire someone to do the housework for less than that rate, then it does make economic sense, if its work I dont have the time or energy for.

Once I saw things in this light, I decided to give a domestic cleaning service a try. I hired a maid to come in twice a week and Im delighted to say it has made a vast improvement in the way I feel and in the way my house looks. She can do more in two days than I ever could manage on my own, leaving me free to spend more time with my family and on personal things. I feel better knowing my house looks good and that makes me more cheerful and productive at work. For domestic cleaning London offered services all over the city and I found a service and maid that Im very happy with in my own neighborhood. For me, a maid did prove to be an economically-sound choice - it may work in your home, too!
