To win a superfecta at the dog track, you have to pick the four dogs that cross the finish line first. Sure, you can box your bet, but that can get expensive. So, the smart superfecta bettor saves his bets for the races where there's a better chance of picking four dogs that are really contenders.

By this, I mean races where it isn't almost impossible to say which dogs will be in the superfecta and which dogs don't have a shot at it. In many races, while there are four dogs that look good because of early speed and good race times, it's not possible to be really sure that they'll be there at the end of the race.

Sometimes, these dogs don't have a good post position. Sometimes, the early speed dogs look good, but then you look at the other dogs and see a couple that close really well. Who's to say that those dogs won't be there at the end of the race?

They may not be first or second. They may not even be third. But all they have to do is be fourth and there goes your super. This is why it's so important to get your program early. You need to go over it at least twice, and be very selective about picking races where your superfecta picks have the best chance.

It's far better to bet only one or two races on a program, where you're confident that your dogs have the edge, than it is to bet several that you're "kind of" sure about. If you find it almost impossible to pass a race by, maybe you'd better think about whether you're betting with your brain or your emotions.
