subject: Taking Out The Stress In The Workplace With Funny Trophies [print this page]

A trophy is not a stranger to sports contestsA trophy is not a stranger to sports contests. In fact, it is a major part of that event. A match without a trophy doesn't seem like a serious one. It's what the participants are vying for, the symbol of their triumph.

Trophies aren't exclusive to physical competitions. They can also be found in nearly every match, including village events like cooking contests, beauty pageants, and talent contests. Even a local elementary school gives away a trophy to the grand winner of their Spelling Bee match.

Trophies don't always have to be only for game champions. There is also a need for them at the office.

Staff members who have done an exceptional job are ordinarily awarded with appreciation plaques by the management. With these plaques, the staff members know that their hard work is recognized and greatly valued, and whatever their place in the office is, they will endeavor to do more because they know they are respected members.

Plaques may be about showing admiration and encouraging hard work, but trophies keep the balance in the office. How so? A trophy doesn't always have to be about serious things and competitions. It can be an entertaining reminder to the staff members that even if they usually doing a stressful project, they need to loosen up a bit sometimes.

Organizing an annual "awards show" can help achieve that. Staff members can vote for their colleagues for humorous categories, such as an award for the most worthy worker who has drunk the most cups of coffee in one day or a trophy for the office Karaoke King or Dancing Queen for the gifts they have exhibited one time during an office party.

The awards shouldn't be serious at all. They must be amusing and inoffensive. They aren't even to ignite the competitive nature of the employees. The purpose of this awards show is to let staff members loosen up and enjoy their colleagues' company. They may need to concentrate and give their best at work, but they should also find time to laugh and relax. They may be there to work, but they should also be aware that they are working with their colleagues.

Laughing with each other will help lessen the stress and tension their work brings. Having an "awards show" to give out hilarious awards once a year will make the whole year entertaining for everyone. And that's one way of creating balance in the workplace.
