Francisco Esteban Acua de Figueroa (d. October 6, 1862) was an Uruguayan poet.
Acua de Figueroa was born in Montevideo on September 20, 1790. Later, his father sent him to study in Buenos Aires, Argentina, but the city's invasion made him return to Montevideo, where he wrote poems while working for his father. There was no printing press in Montevideo, so none of his works were published at that time.

Horacio Silvestre Quiroga Forteza (d. 19 February 1937) was an Uruguayan playwright, poet and (above all) short story writer.

He also excelled in portraying mental illness and hallucinatory states. His influence can be seen in the Latin American magic realism of Gabriel Garca Mrquez and the postmodern surrealism of Julio Cortzar.

Manuel Prez y Curis (d. November 22, 1920) was an Uruguayan poet, born in Montevideo, Uruguay.
The Apolo Magazine stands out between its works (of art and sociology) that appeared monthly; the writing secretary was Ovidio Fernndez Ros and La Arquitectura del verso, published in Paris and Mexico. The poetess Delmira Agustini in almost all numbers wrote in Apolo (the poem appears here in 1908, Las coronas). In the year in 1908, he published in the magazines Alberto Zum Felde, La Hiperbrea and Lul Margat. He died of tuberculosis 1920, in Montevideo.

Enrique Amorim (d. July 28, 1960) was an Uruguayan novelist and writer, best known for his story Las quitanderas whose plot centres on rural prostitution; also known for his left-wing politics.
Born in Salto, Uruguay, his parents were wealthy cattle ranchers. His father was from a Portuguese background, his mother Basque. Amorim travelled extensively in Europe and Latin America, developing acquaintanceships and friendships with many of the leading literary figures of his time. He eventually had a house built in Salto, designed by Le Corbusier.
In the 1920s Amorim wrote for the Argentinian leftist magazine Los Pensadores and published with the press Claridad, both associated with the left-leaning Buenos Aires-based Boedo group. In 1947 Amorim officially joined the Communist Party of Uruguay. He was also responsible for the erection of a monument in Salto to commemorate Federico Garca Lorca, the poet and playwright killed by Francisco Franco's forces in the opening weeks of the Spanish Civil War.

In 1996, Filippini played what was longest known game in ATP Tour history at Casablanca, going to deuce 20 times with Alberto Berasategui in one game of a 62, 63 first round loss. The game lasted 28 minutes.

Gonzalo Sorondo Amaro is a defensive Uruguayan footballer who plays for Internacional in Brazil.
Gonzalo Sorondo began his career with Uruguayan club Defensor Sporting Club, moving to Internazionale in 2001. By 2003 he was on loan to Belgian club Standard Lige. Crystal Palace took him on loan in August 2004 where he played in the Premiership. A year later another loan, this time to Charlton, was confirmed in July 2005 after he obtained a work permit. At the summer of 2006 he became a free agent, and signed a new-deal with Charlton.
He was a regular member of the Uruguay national team, making his debut against Colombia, the August 15, 2000, and played for his country in the 2002 FIFA World Cup, but has consistently been dropped in recent years, due to injuries and limited league appearances.
He also played in 1999 FIFA World Youth Championship, with a 4th final place (currently known as the FIFA U-20 World Cup).
Sorondo was released by Charlton Athletic in February 2007 and returned to Defensor.
Nowadays, he's playing at Internacional, from Brazil.
He acquired Brazilian citizenship on September 3, 2009.
