subject: Did You Find Out About The Importance Of Having The Right Survival Knife Today? [print this page]

No one can underestimate the importance of having the right survival knife. Choose the proper knife because the choice could determine whether or not you live. If you go out regularly to the great outdoors, you do not have to be told that your survival knife can be he best companion on your adventure.

You knife must never let you down; it must be ready to help you in every situation. There was a time when all men carried a knife, even if was simply a little pocket knife. But if a man went to out to nature, he was sure to carry what was then called a hunting knife with him. A good quality, rugged survival knife such as a Becker BK2 Campanion could possibly make the difference in an outdoors survival predicament.

The reality of today is that most men and women do not realize the advantages of having a handy knife at their side. In fact many men and women are afraid of knives. Go out on the hiking trail and you will meet people who will ask what the knife hanging on your pack is for.

If people have to ask what the knife is for, they they do not know why they should have one too. Many think of Hollywood movies like Rambo when they think of survival knives. They think that Hollywood heroes can conquer the world with their survival knife. But these huge knives depicted in the movies, are not always the best for the job.

The large knives are sometimes hard to control and can be heavy and too bulky to use effectively. If you are familiar with how to use a knife in the outdoors you know that there are times you need a knife for fine detail work and a heavy, bulky knife is not suited for this purpose.

One of the most important points to keep in mind when buying a survival knife is the quality of the sheath. The sheath is what you use to carry your knife when you are not using it and should be of high quality leather.

Many people do not take into consideration the sheath when making a buying decision, but the wrong sheath can actually cause you injury. There are many cheaply made sheaths on the market, made of vinyl with poor stitching or weak riveting. If the sheath is of poor vinyl material, the knife blade will but through the sheath and will be exposed; if you fall or stumble on the sheath you wear on your hip, the knife could stab you.

Choose a knife with a solid handle. There are knives on the market that have hollow handles. The hollow out area is used to carry things like fish hooks, and line, matches, and other items related you would find in a survival kit. However, the hollow handle makes for a weak knife.

It is better to have a separate kit for your survival gear like fishing tackle. If you have a knife with a hollow handle and you lose the knife, you will lose your survival kit with it. Buy the right knife for you.
