subject: Degreasers : Essential For Industrial Applications [print this page]

When you look at degreaser or chemical cleaner, both are important products in just about any industry. Anyone who has a home or living area needs strong cleaning agents to get rid of stains. Whether it's for stains on machines or other equipment, this is used in any manufacturing process. It doesn't matter how difficult you might think the stay will be, any degreaser or chemical cleaner is geared to remove it. If you're not familiar with a degreaser it's simply a solution or chemical built to remove a stain. This can be anything from grease, fat, or oil that is situated on just about anything. The properties within these help aid in the removal and is able to breakdown the fatty residues. Then again, industrial degreasers are set-up to eliminate oily stains that are built-up on machines, the floor, or even wall surfaces. Unfortunately, most of the standard solutions out there can't do this at all.

Years ago degreaser had plenty of CFCs (chlorofluorocarbons) and VOCs (volatile organic compounds) as the main ingredients. The reason for these was to remove the worst oil and grease issues you could imagine. Eventually companies started realizing that these created more issues with the actual equipment. In fact, after awhile the corrosion would begin to surface, and ugly marks due to the way the chemicals reacted to the metal. Most companies believed that this was cost effective in the beginning, but in the end they saw how much money it was costing them. Whether it was repairs or the constant delays, the lack of productivity was a serious problem. Plus, CFCs and VOCs are both considered pollutants to our environment, and if a worker doesn't handle them with care he/she could end up with health or safety obstacles.

The 'green movement' has begun to influence the thinking amongst many industrialists and factories are now seeking alternative products that are also eco-friendly. Non-toxic degreasers are now gradually replacing the toxic variety. The new generation of degreasers is made from ingredients that are mainly organic and biodegradable. They do not pollute the environment and are generally re-usable. They are also water soluble and less expensive than the previous type of degreasers. Industries are now saving on their operational costs by purchasing these new degreasers. They are cheaper to buy, transport and dispose off.

Unlike the traditional toxic degreasers, non-toxic degreasers do not corrode metal. Industries are now making huge savings. They are no longer bogged down by incessant repairs and low productivity brought about by corrosion.

Safety is always important, and if you use a traditional degreaser you run the risk of utilizing a highly flammable product. Non-toxic alternatives have high flash points, which results in them being less flammable.

Non-toxic degreasers have a low pH levels. They do not cause irritations or rashes on the skin and eyes when used. The risk of incurring injury or accidents is significantly low. This translates into lower insurance premiums and lower costs incurred on purchase of protective gear. By using nontoxic degreasers the company safeguards the employees health and helps to sustain the ecosystem since these solutions do not pollute the environment.
