The first thing I had to have was a control panel that could monitor every room in my house. There were models with these things called panic buttons too. Panic buttons were little remote devices that you could use to manually set the alarm off. Overall, the most common home security system features are door and window sensors, which alert you to doors or windows opening. I needed those.The main 'brain' of the home security system is the control panel. It's best to place these things by a door or a main entry of your house, that way you can arm and disarm it easily. If the control panel goes off and you've hired an outside security agency, they'll call the police for you. If not, you have to hook the control panel up to the Internet or the phone and it'll call the authorities for you.Another important feature of home security systems is motion detectors. If you don't have any animals, these are good things to have. If you do, and they tend to wander around the house at night or get up to get a drink of water, they can inadvertently set off the alarm. I've got two dogs, so I chose not to get them.Cameras are also incredible features of new home security systems. If ever a burglar breaks into your house, you'll be catching the whole thing on tape for the authorities. The home security system that I got, I am able to log in remotely to see what's going on in the house, which is nice for when my wife and I are away.I'd like to think that I have the best home security system. I have installed cameras outside of the house and in every room, and all the windows and doors have sensors. Aside from this, my security system control panel is connected to my phone lines so if the sensors are triggered, it automatically calls the police. I have spent a lot on its installation but I am more confident now and I never have to worry about my house being burglarized.
