subject: The World Thinnest Wrist Watch Cell Phone [print this page]

I always thought that if there was one wristphone that could change my mind about the whole idea, it would be LGs GD910. But seems like I was wrong as Samsung has now announced the S9110 wrist watch cell phone, which sounds like a better deal than the yet-to-be released GD910. The S9110 features a 1.76-inch 262k color touchscreen display, has 40MB of internal memory (no word on expansion), Bluetooth 2.1, speakerphone, an mp3 player, and Outlook email sync. Sounds like a great deal for a watchphone right? Yeah, it does, but Samsung has gone one more step ahead and squeezed all this into a body that is just 11.98 mm thick, making this, according to the company, the worlds thinnest touchscreen cellphone.

Samsung's only real wrist watch cell phone competitor hasn't even launched its product yet, so it's a little early for the marketing oneupmanship. Regardless, the S9110 is an impressive piece of kit, with a 1.76-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, email support and MP3 playback.

Rounding out the feature list are a few watchphone necessities, like voice recognition and speakerphone, all in a package that measures in at about 12mm thickbulkier than your average Swatch, but well within acceptable wristwear territory. The first wave of releases will be scattered throughout Europe, starting in France, where the S9110 will retail for around 0.

The most striking thing about thisas well as the LG GD910is that unlike pretty much every wrist watch cell phone we've seen before, these might be usable on a day to day basis, granted you're willing to accept the inherent awkwardness of the wrist watch cell phone form factor. No word on a stateside release yet, but import costs aren't likely to stop the kinds of dapper jetsetting gentlemen and/or independently wealthy James Bond superfans who'll be buying this thing anyway.
