subject: Markethound Helps Uk Shoppers Hunt Down Better Deals On Groceries [print this page]

With the UK in one of the deepest recessions since the 1930s, consumers need to stretch their pounds and pennies further than ever in order to make ends meet. Luckily, there is a new grocery shopping website designed to help UK shoppers find the lowest price possible on their grocery orders.

MarketHound (www.markethound.co.uk) lets online shoppers instantly compare prices from four major supermarkets: Sainsburys, Ocado, Tesco and Asda

. Then, when its time to check out their shopping cart, MarketHound shows them which grocery vendor will give them the best overall savings on everything in their cart.

When youre shopping for dozens of grocery items, its not enough to be able to compare prices on a single item, says Nadav Harari, CEO of P C Grocery

, the company behind MarketHound. With MarketHound, we created a shopping tool that lets consumers find the best price on the contents of their entire shopping cart. After reviewing the total cost savings each store offers, users can complete the order with the store that offers them the best deal overall.

Price-conscious and time-strapped UK consumers are becoming more and more reliant on Internet shopping. New web-based price-comparison tools like MarketHound allow them to seek out bargains, place their orders and have their purchases shipped to them in a fraction of the time it used to take. Although only 13 percent of UK consumers currently use the Internet to make purchases, that percentage will rise to 34 percent in the next five to 10 years.

The recession may accelerate the trend in online purchasing. Most grocery shoppers are putting low prices ahead of store or brand loyalty. Fifty-eight percent report that they shop at the supermarkets, hypermarkets or grocery stores that offer the biggest discounts, and 62 percent say they will switch brands when they find cheaper alternatives. New, web-based tools like MarketHound are likely to lure more penny-pinching consumers online by offering them a quick and convenient way to compare supermarket prices.

But its not just about saving money. Sites like MarketHound also appeal to consumers who are looking for more ethical alternatives. As well as identifying the cheapest options, MarketHound can also help shoppers make socially conscious choices by recommending fair trade or organic versions of the products they have selected. Using a complex algorithm, the site is able to instantly present a range of products the customer might prefer to their selected brand.

It all comes down to choice, convenience and savings, says Harari. With MarketHound, consumers can be confident that theyre getting the best products at the biggest savingswithout spending all day wandering up and down the grocery aisles.
