subject: Computer Security Is Absolutely Necessary [print this page]

Computers today are considered a household item. Almost every household has one or more computers. It has become a way of life. Like other important items in the home, it needs protection. Not only should you insure the computer itself but protection on the information on the computer needs to be in place. Stolen personal information can have lasting, devastating effects.

If stolen private information can wreak havoc with your life, imagine the information that can be stolen from a small to medium size company, especially if the company deals with individual's financial information. Even with putting security systems in place, systems can and are broken into. However, not having any security protection on a computer system is just crazy.

Companies that have valuable information will place stringent processes in place such as monitoring all email and correspondence sent by their employees or being received. Employees often balked at these procedures and complain about their privacy. Management needs to explain why these processes are in place and what could happen if there was a breach in their computer security system, and then the employees would have a better understanding of the disaster they are trying to prevent.

Unfortunately, wherever there is a computer there should be a computer security system that goes with it. There are so many different types of viruses out there and not all of them are designed to steal information. There are some that are designed just to destroy your computer. Once that happens, there is no way to fix it and you wind up purchasing a new computer. Why would someone want to do this? Simply, because they have the capability.

Whether you are an individual or company, it's always best to seek the advice of a trained professional if you are unsure of what needs to be done. Don't take it upon yourself to guess at the most suitable type of protection you need. Costs maybe saved initially but if it isn't the correct system for your needs, the time and money spent to correct an problem may be more than you bargained for.
