subject: Personal Development As A Goal Of Extracurricular Activities [print this page]

Extracurricular Activities in Students Life

Extracurricular activities take a great part in students life. The majority of students in every college and university chooses some kind of extracurricular activity because it is enjoyable, and pleasant. Besides, extracurricular activities are beneficial for students physical, social and mental health.

Of course, some students do not even think over the importance of being a member of this or that group. They are more interested in educational affairs; maybe they adore doing a certain type of research work. They appreciate their teachers and everything they say. Academic goals are the sense of their lives. But, perhaps, it happens so because they have never participated in none of sport games (even which demands mental work), they have never been a part of a team, where every member is a part of something one, and where everybody takes care of his/her peers.

The Balance between Study and Extracurricular Activities

But it should not be a surprise that not only academic results are important for college or university administration. Student social role and place is also of high importance. Student activity reveals a great part of information about the student, his/her interests, and his/her inner world. Viewing at the list of this or that student one can definitely know the information about the contributions of the student in this or that field of activities; the information about non-academic interests of the student; the information about the students endurance; the information about students ability to manage his/her time and priorities.

Of course, one should not to overdo while participating in this or that extracurricular activity. Students should balance between education and non-educational activities. To be engaged in an extracurricular activity means to be engaged in it in a proper way. University and college do not want to see the amount of the activities students are engaged in. They want to see the result of a personal development.
