subject: What To Do When Faced With A Parking Ticket [print this page]

Getting a parking ticket is always an annoying affair. And the fines are not cheap too. If you have received a parking ticket, there are two things you can do. You can either pay the fine or go ahead with an appeal. But it is advised that whatever you do, do not ignore a parking ticket because doing so might cost you dear. The Council sends Bailiffs from door to door to collect fines and the cause of your ignorance may be penalized to a 1000.

There is a financial crunch and it will be better for you to waste as less money as possible In these hard times people are learning that savings is important and unfair parking tickets may be appealed against to save a bit. After all, there is nothing to lose. All you need is the price of a stamp if you are mailing the appeal or the time taken to do an email, if there is such facility.

Before I explain the process please DO NOT PAY YOUR FINE BEFORE YOU APPEAL. Do this and in the eyes of the law you have automatically given up your right to appeal. The only way to restart the process is if you have paid by credit and ask the credit card company to do a charge back. Otherwise you would have to go to a small claims court within 6 years of the parking ticket.

Have a thorough look at the parking ticket. That you can appeal is written on it. There is usually a postal address and sometimes e-mail address too where you can send your appeal.

Your appeal letter should be laid out in short paragraphs and which should be easy for the reader to understand without the use of loads of technical terms. It also should be polite, to the point and not come across as threatening or rude to the reader.

You can show the following reason/s in order to highlight that a parking ticket was issued to you wrongfully.

Reasons can be:

* I was not driving the car.

* My car was stolen.

* The alleged contravention did not occur in other words the traffic warden got it wrong.

* There were no proper or insufficient signs to show that Law may be broken.

* There was a break down.

* I just cannot afford to pay the fine.

There may be any other logical reason the supports your claim.

If there are evidences to support you appeal, that will be useful. The best will be in form of photographs or videos.

When you are sending the appeal, send photocopies and by means of recorded delivery.

If you are still confused regarding how to appeal and what may be the grounds and what are the chances of winning, you can spend hours on the internet doing the research or visit an online company who will not only help you with information regarding appealing a parking ticket but also guide you through the process.

These companies may help you personally too. About two third of the motorist win such appeals. With professional help, the chance of winning is 100 per cent.
