subject: A Few Similarities Between All Entrepreneurs [print this page]

From the outside looking in, being an entrepreneur may seem easy. It is not. After all if it were easy, wouldn't everyone be starting his or her own business? In truth, being an entrepreneur requires a certain personality. Different people may succeed but deep down they all possess a few similar traits that make them well suited for the world of business. You may be wondering what these essential traits are. They aren't always the traits that are expected. Great entrepreneurs are willing to fail and understand how to weigh and manage risk.

Are you afraid of failure? Many people are. In fact many entrepreneurs are afraid of failing. To start a business, you have to put everything on the line. You risk financial ruin, embarrassment, discouragement and more. Entrepreneurs understand this risk and are willing to make it. This doesn't mean that they want to fail- quite the contrary actually. Entrepreneurs want to succeed so badly that they are willing to risk everything to succeed.

Entrepreneurs are willing to get in and make things happen. They will call a manufacturer in China and start production knowing that they may not succeed. They see risks as opportunities and do not let their fear of failure keep them from pressing forward. Sometimes they will achieve success and other times they will be met by failure. All entrepreneurs are united by this willingness to take a risk.

Another important trait for entrepreneurs is the ability to weigh risks and make decisions. Sure, entrepreneurs take risks. However, their risks are less of a gamble and more of an investment because they know what they are looking for. An entrepreneur can evaluate a situation and determine the level of risk. This helps them to know which business risks to take and which to avoid. They won't always make the right choice but depending on their skills will be able to weed out many unnecessary risks. This helps them as they proceed into the business world. It helps them to choose from the many possibilities the ones that will be the most likely to help them succeed. Entrepreneurs carefully determine the choices that will be best for their business.
